Walter Hook and Rajendra Ravi Inducing Technological Innovation in the Indian Cycle Rickshaw: What are the Environmental Benefits? This presentation will review the history of attempts to induce technological improvements in the Indian cycle rickshaw, with a particular focus on the current U.S.AID/AITD/ITDP project in Agra and New Delhi. It will assess the likelihood of succesful commercial adaptation, and try to generalize the conditions which make such commercial adaptation possible. It then develops a methodology and some initial estimates of the likely environmental benefits of such efforts per dollar of project investment.
